Victor Chan is clearly a man who has used his considerable gifts well in the service of his fellow men and women. As a student in the Chung Chi Music Department he seemed to absorb the information he needed without trouble, but with a good deal of hard work. When he was present the atmosphere was always positive, and humour was not far away, and yet I remember him as a very serious young man, determined to do well.
After further study he returned to the Music Department as a member of the staff and became a fine colleague. His achievements as a teacher are well known, and those as a fine administrator also. On top of all that he is a splendid composer. He always produces music of beauty, whatever its objective. Professor Chan Wai Kwong certainly has a great deal to be proud of in his long career at Chung Chi, but then pride is not one of his favourite emotions. I am sure that he will continue to serve the community in all the ways he can, and the community will be the better for it.
“In faith and hope, I learn to shift my focus, away from the journey itself, to the one who sees me through.”
